Her career kickstarted in the 1950's, after which, she immediately shot to fame – there was no turning back. Shirley's contribution to the music industry was immense, which is why she was conferred the DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to the entertainment industry. She rose from the back streets of Cardiff to become one of the most celebrated singers in the world!
