There's No Resisting Diva in Silver
From The Kent Messenger, By Sarah White, Sep 4 1998

As the sky turned to night, Shirley Bassey illuminated the stage with her glamorous silver dress and big smile. She chatted and charmed the crowd before bursting into song singing her James Bond movie theme tunes Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever. Her strong, clear voice was on top form and the crowd applauded loudly after every number.

Shirley's set included cover versions of You'll See by Madonna and the Grace Jones song Slave To The Rhythm. I liked Madonna's version of You'll See but when I heard Shirley Bassey's powerful voice singing it live accompanied by an orchestra I thought it sounded incredible. Although I have never previously been a fan of Shirley Bassey and have only ever heard her songs as the theme tunes to James Bond movies I was wowed by her.

She told the crowd how The Propellerheads had turned her from a grandmother into a disco queen before she sang their combined chart hit History Repeating. And only someone as big as Shirley Bassey  could sing a classic like My Way and do it the justice it deserves.  Shirley performed for more than an hour before leaving the stage and coming back for an enthusiastic encore.

I went to see Shirley Bassey expecting to be sitting among pensioners but I was wrong as the lively fans both young and old provided a lively atmosphere. And Shirley oozed personality and performed with talent and style.
