Concert At Liverpool Summer Pops 2002

On July 3 2002, Dame Shirley Bassey gave a concert as part of the annual Liverpool Summer Pops.
She got a standing ovation the minute she walked out. She was very chatty and joking and so was the crowd. She stated that this was only her second concert for this year and that it has to be the last one as she needed to go and lie in the sun because she was getting so pale. She said it had to be Liverpool, as the concert last year was such a success for her, and she must return to the Summer Pops next year ... if we'll have her. (See: Liverpool Summer Pops 2001) At one point Shirley asked for the lights to be put on so she could see who she was singing to and then they stayed on for the rest of the performance.

Fans who have seen many different concerts all told that this concert was the best. They especially liked the smaller venue with about 3500 people, which made the event more intimate. Although this time there were barriers up at the front of the stage so people couldn't get too close, she interacted with the audience in true Bassey style. The audience loved her and she loved the audience.

Songs Performed

Like on some of the last concerts, Shirley Bassey gave a great rendition of "Summertime", a song that has never been recorded and released by her. She sang half the song without orchestral accompaniment which sounded truly magnificent. It absolutely proved the quality of her voice as she did not need the orchestra at all. The following is the list of songs as reported by fans, it may not be in the right order and may be incomplete.
