Dame Shirley Bassey Wows the Pops! From
CMP Entertainment, Jul 4 2002
Dame Shirley Bassey had the Liverpool crowd on their feet at The Summer Pops last night, then vowed to return again next year!
Having played at the Summer Pops in 2001, Dame Shirley returned for a second helping in 2002 and said: "You are a fantastic audience. I came back this year, I'm going to have to come back again next year."
Backed by her usual 22-piece orchestra, and dressed in a typically flamboyant Bassey-esque diamond-encrusted red outfit, she thrilled the crowd with a set which kicked off with the obligatory 'Gold Finger' and included 'Diamonds Are Forever', 'Big Spender' along with impeccable renditions of standards like 'New York, New York', 'Crazy', 'I am what I am' and her own tribute to Liverpool in the shape of Beatles' songs 'Something' and 'Hey Jude'.
