Shirley Bassey Performs in Front of the Sphinx Oct 1998

On October 8th, 1998 Shirley Bassey gave a concert in Egypt at the foot of the pyramids in front of the Sphinx. About 5,000 fans and other guests attended the concert. It was a charity concert and Shirley Bassey had been personally invited by President Hosni Mubarak's wife Suzanne to raise money for an Egyptian education project.

A later concert programme wrote that this was "an honour last bestowed on Frank Sinatra over 25 years ago. This was a show that will never be repeated and one never to be forgotten, as the blazing sun sunk slowly behind the Spinx Dame Shirley was undoubtedly Queen of the Nile for an evening."
