Shirley Performs on Parkinson

Shirley Bassey performed to a studio audience on the BBC1 Parkinson programme on 3rd May 2003. The programme is hosted by Michael Parkinson.

Shirley sang two songs on the show, although she wasn't interviewed by the veteran chat show host. First of all, she came onto the stage in a white open collared trouser suit, wearing glamorous red gloss lipstick and boasting a big diamond necklace and diamond earrings.

She sang the title song, Thank You for the Years from her new album and in the theme of her 2003 Concert Tour of the same name. She gave a powerful rendition of this song, with heartfelt emotion, thanking her fans for their years of devotion.

She came back later in the programme, and gave an equally powerful rendition of Diamonds Are Forever this time dressed in a long gold dress. Michael Parkinson commented on her diamond necklace, joking that it wasn't from the BBC Costume department, but was "real"! He also commented that she was not wearing a wig, it was her own hair, as she usually wears a wig.
