Shirley entered the Studio with the orchestra playing a jazzy instrumental version of Kiss Me, Honey Honey. She was wearing a white fur cloak, which was removed by the two handsome men who escorted her to the stage to perform a great rendition of  Thank You For The Years

"I finally made it!" - Graham Norton has been waiting years to get Shirley onto the show. Shirley commented on the new song, she said she was surprised that no one had written a song with the title before, and they both agreed that it was like a classic ballad. They both sipped at the Champagne, it wasn't pink, which Shirley prefers, though "It's got bubbles!"

She spoke about when she was in Las Vegas with Elvis for the second time and she was wearing a jump suit quite lowly buttoned and he penned down her chest down to her stomach. It wasn't until she got back to the hotel that she found it was biro that he penned on her. She didn't wash for a week but it eventually unfortunately wore off.

She then went onto speak about her first time she was on stage with a purple net skirt that when she sang the last high note to a song it fell down so she grabbed it and ran off stage! Her manager told her that she would not do that again and she would stay on stage whatever happened she then turned to him and said "but I had no knickers on"!

A juvenile, silly game!! Graham rang a Jewellers in America called 'Bassey Street Jewels' Shirley held boards with her songs on that Graham had to incorporate into the conversation: He said - Is this Bassey Street Jewels? 'What Kind of Fool am I' I was looking to buy a gift of some sort. The man who answered then passed it over to his wife. She said "Hello Bassey Street Jewellers" Graham followed by saying oh its like 'History Repeating' Do you have anything that last for a long time he said "I know 'Diamonds are forever'" A diamond is a great choice what type of price range? Graham replied "quite a lot I'm sort of a bit of a 'Goldfinger'" "I want my girlfriend to throw herself onto me and jump on me shouting 'Kiss me honey honey kiss me'" So you want a gold ring? Graham said oh I don't know 'Burn my candle at both ends'" I'm a pretty 'Big Spender' The lady asks "is this a joke?" Graham replies "'Never never never'" "Climb every mountain" He then went on to say that the link with them was the he had Shirley Bassey on the show the lady went on to say that her husband was a huge fan. He came back. Shirley spoke to him and sang the first few opening lines to Goldfinger, the fan was elated.

The next part of the show was talking about the tour. Shirley said it starts the 4th - Graham said the 5th in Belfast. Shirley said "go on! show me up" and said that she always is the last to know. Graham said he didn't want her turning up with no-one there because she might be busking on her own. Shirley spoke about being in New Orleans on a long road of buskers and when she went to find an empty corner to busk on. She was just about to open her mouth to sing Summertime and someone put their hand over her mouth and gagged her. When she asked why he done that he said because if they all find out that you are a professional singer they'll have you. That terrified her.

Graham spoke about the loyal faithful fans, and some of the ones he knows going to all the up and coming concerts. Shirley said she knows people who are as well. Graham cracked a joke by saying all the 22 people in the orchestra. 22 close friend with instruments. She said it can be freaky having the same fans on the front row in different towns. The same gown, act etc. It is off putting because if she makes a mistake she's had it. It can work the other way though because if she forgets some lyrics she looks to a fan whose singing along. Travelling is tiring she loves travelling but not as much now as she's "getting on"

Graham produced a hand made sugar cake of Dame Shirley Bassey in a purple gown with Graham at the side made by Steven Howard. He was touching his figure and said he couldn't believe he was playing with himself in front of Shirley Bassey. Shirley ate a bit of icing but it had a sequin on it. Her tongue went blue as a result of it and she couldn't believe she had to sing again with a blue tongue. Graham passed the Champagne to her to try and get rid of it but it didn't work - it was still blue. She kept sticking her tongue out. Graham said "what were you thinking" "gargle gargle" "has it gone" she said. "you can lick it off Graham" Graham said " I can't be tonguing you on television" She said "why not?"

Shirley left the seat to go and get changed for the last number -  Big Spender, she looked stunning. The gown was a floral pattern in pink, yellow and white two piece dress with very little stitching and if she pulled one of those splits any higher we would see everything! It had splits all round. Her legs looked absolutely stunning. She didn't wear a wig either so she looked as young as ever with her own natural hair, Diamond necklace and earrings.

Very entertaining show, the Dame was so relaxed and radiant. So good to see!

Thank you for Steve for providing the write-up for the show.

Review
From Sunday Mail, 1 June 2003

I thought Dame Shirley Bassey was a real star on V Graham Norton. She proved that although she is an international star she hasn't let fame go to her head and had a good old laugh with Graham. Some of the younger pop stars around today would do well to take a leaf out of our Shirl's book. - Robert Young, Paisley.
