Shirley is Forever
From the Sunday Mail, by Heather Greenaway, Jun 9 2003

To the haunting strains of Goldfinger, the 66-year-old diva wafted on stage and exploded into song. Earth-shattering renditions of Diamonds Are Forever and Kiss Me Honey Honey rocked the SECC to its core.

But it was her raunchy performance of Big Spender that drove fans wild, lifting her flouncy, glittering skirt to flash a pair of pins a woman half her age would be proud of.

Even after 50 years on the road, Shirley still has what it takes.

Shirl Shows Her Charm
From Sunday Mail, Jun 8 2003

Email can reveal the secret of why Shirley Bassey is still belting out the songs in thigh- high sparkly frocks at 66.

Dame Shirley took over five rooms of Scotland's leading spa to prepare for her Scottish gig last night.

The health-conscious diva, who still looks stunning in a size 12, forked out more than £1500 to bag the best rooms at luxurious Stobo Castle health complex near Peebles. Shirley treated herself to a number of pampering treatments, including a manicure and pedicure, before her show at Glasgow's SECC.

But there were hot denials that the sultry songstress had displayed some classic diva- like demands.

"Absolutely not," an insider told Email. "Dame Shirley could not have been more charming and took the time to chat with all the staff and guests. She was just lovely."

‘Big Spender’ Shirley stars at Stobo
From Peebleshire News, 12 Jun 2003

Last weekend saw Dame Shirley Bassey kick-off her UK tour in Glasgow to promote her new greatest hits album.

And where better to spend a little time but in the Borders at the exclusive health spa at Stobo Castle.

Dame Shirley took over five rooms at Stobo to prepare for her show and indulged in such pampering treatments as a luxurious massage and manicure.

Dame Shirley loved the Borders and found the views to be spectacular.

Stephen Winyard, Managing Director, said: “It is fantastic for the Borders to have an international artiste such as Shirley Bassey staying in Peebleshire. Dame Shirley looked absolutely stunning and obviously has an avid interest in health and well being. She is in fantastic shape, which she proved at her show on the Saturday night.

“Throughout her stay, Dame Shirley could not have been more charming, taking the time to speak with all the staff and guests,” he added.

Dame Shirley also spent time with Stobo’s Fitness Manager Ruth Noonan.

Ruth said: “She is in fantastic shape and I put her through her paces during our workout together. You can tell Dame Shirley has always concentrated on her health and it has certainly paid off.”

Trish Ridgway, Spa Manager, added: “Our spa specialists loved looking after Dame Shirley and found her hands and nails needed little done to them.”
