Well here we are, back in
Cardiff where it all began all those years ago. It has been a great
adventure with many twist and turns along the way and plenty of
wonderful memories to hold forever!
As I approached the anniversary for 50 years in show business. I began
to look at what I could do to leave a lasting legacy in my home country.
I had also long been wondering what to do with the ever- growing
collection of gowns. I have had great success from these wonderful
dresses, some are from the very beginning of my career and so I feel
quite attached. I decided that I would like to see the gowns go whilst I
am still here - I want to see where they go and where the money
goes.
I decided that an auction would be the best option allowing my fans to
have a chance to own some of them. Then came the decision of where
should the money go? When I first heard that Wales does not have its own
Children's Hospital I simply could not believe it. Who would have
thought it in this day and age? The decision became simple. The money
would be split between the Noah's Ark Appeal and the Welsh College of
Music and Drama.
I am thrilled to be able to contribute towards the first Children's
Hospital in Wales and I truly feel that is a most worthwhile cause. I
would also like to congratulate the people of Wales for their
magnificent generosity in raising the first £5.5 million. It really
shows the true spirit and determination of this great country.
