President John F. Kennedy |
<<PREVIOUS LOT |
NEXT LOT>>

A Grecian-style gown composed of three layers of
vari-toned pink chiffon over pink crêpe to blush pink effect with softly pleated
and draped décolleté bodice, the high waist of ruched chiffon fastening at the
back with a delicate bow of chiffon strands.
This dress was purchased by Dame Shirley in Washington for her meeting with
President John F. Kennedy at Vice-President Johnson's house in January, 1963.
Dame Shirley is very proud to have met President John F. Kennedy and she recalls
...I didn't have a dress [to wear to meet the President] ...I didn't know there
was going to be a party after the show and I wasn't going to wear my stage gown.
So I rushed out, after the show -- I went to Nieman Marcus in Washington and
picked a gown...this was the nicest one...Although all [the stage gowns are]
sexy, they're not the kind of gowns I wear when I go out ...It's two different
people...It was very special meeting President Kennedy...he died later that same
year...
