A striking voluminous stage coat of rose pink silk
by Douglas Darnell, the neckline, front and cuffs of the pagoda sleeves edged
with large baguette cut clear rhinestones and lavishly embroidered with
Swarovski rose aurora borealis and clear crystals, silver sequins, imitation
pearls, pink tear drop rhinestones and pink shell-shaped sequins in a design of
stylised flowerheads and leaves; and
- a two-piece evening ensemble comprising sleeveless palazzo pyjamas of candy
pink crêpe with matching belt and long-sleeved jacket, the front and cuffs
richly decorated with rose pink and white paillettes and Swarovski rose beads
and fancy clear crystals, all labelled inside Tomaz Starzewski.
According to Darnell, the pink stage coat in this lot was worn by Dame Shirley
to open her show at the Talk Of The Town and other venues in the 1970s.
