A flamboyant stage ensemble by Sara Perceval
comprising: a full-length wrap around skirt, the natural gauze ground encrusted
with iridescent orange, pink and red sequins and white rhinestones in a flame
design, with matching leotard top with sheer bodice, similarly embellished; a
sleeveless coat covered in close bands of bright red ostrich feathers with
flowing train lined in flaming red lamé; a boa of exotic iridescent feathers,
one end modelled as a stylised phoenix head with red sequins, purple bugle
beads, red rhinestones, fine red feathers, topaz rhinestones as eyes and a
gold-coloured metal beak; and a boa of bright red ostrich feathers.
This ensemble was worn extensively by Dame Shirley on tour in the 1980s and
1990s - the photograph illustrated shows Dame Shirley wearing the ensemble on
stage in Bournemouth during her 1991 U.K. Tour.
