Two intricately beaded short jackets by Douglas
Darnell with three-quarter length sleeves, one of pale pink raw silk encrusted
with Swarovski aurora borealis crystals, vari-shaped and sized imitation pearls
and silver beads, the cuffs and delicately scalloped hem densely fringed with
strands of silver beads; the other jacket of pistachio green raw silk, similarly
embroidered with peridot and aurora borealis crystals, pearls and beads, both
garments fastening at the back; and
- a medieval-style evening gown of lime green chiffon, the full multi-layered
skirt gathered to the waist with a velvet waistband fastening with a bow, the
bodice and long sleeves embroidered with a lattice pattern of imitation pearls
and gold beads, the scoop neck edged with Swarovski fancy jonquil crystals and
imitation pearls, labelled inside Designed By Sara Perceval, with a pair of
matching stiletto heeled sandals, the thin straps studded with imitation pearls
and gold beads, the insoles stamped F. Pinet
Weight of each jacket: approx. 1.5kg.
The photograph illustrated shows Dame Shirley wearing one of the jackets in this
lot for a photo shoot in her dressing room in the mid-1960s. The jackets both
originally had matching skirts which were damaged in a flood several years ago.
