Bassey's Gowns - For Big Spenders Only From Telegraph Fashion Online, 17 September 2003

Dame Shirley Bassey's glittering gowns have dazzled audiences around the world.

Now she's selling 50 of them to celebrate half a century in showbusiness and help her home city of Cardiff by giving the money to charity.

Lots include the gold and silver gown she wore to sing the theme song for Goldfinger at the premiere in 1964.

The auction takes place at Christies tomorrow the gowns are expected to fetch at least £50,000.

One beneficiary will be the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The money will be used to establish annual scholarships named after Dame Shirley to help young people who have exceptional musical talent.

The second charity is the Noah's Ark Appeal, launched in 2000 to build the first children's hospital in Wales.
