At the 'Desert' Rose Ball in Monaco
From Hello! Magazine, Apr 17 2001

The Rose Ball is a yearly event in Monaco for the rich ones. Shirley Bassey and Gina Lollobrigida are among the regular guests.

The romance of the desert inspired the decor for this years Rose Ball, or Bal de la Rose at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monaco, which raised funds for the Princess Grace foundation. Arabic arches framed the view over the Mediterranean and in front of each place setting was a desert rose rock crystal. The ball was hosted by Prince Ernst of Hannover and Princess Caroline of Monaco... Vis-à-vis to Shirley Bassey sat Stanislas de Quercize.

Guest of honour was the Duchess of Gloucester, patron of the charity. Compère for the evening was television news presenter Martyn Lewis, who obviously enjoyed introducing Dame Shirley Bassey as the star cabaret.
