Talk of the Town

Shirley Bassey live at Talk Of The Town taken in 1962On 15th January 1900 the London Hippodrome began life with a circus and water spectacle… the first of many legendary shows which has continued to this day providing London with a venue to accommodate the unusual and the spectacular.

Through the ages the Hippodrome has seen a host of stars entertain their audiences, from Charlie Chaplin with the introduction of his film ' City Lights' in 1931, to such modern day stars as Tina Turner.

In 1958 the venue became 'The Talk of the Town', one of London's most celebrated cabaret night-spots where some of the world's biggest musical and comedy stars appeared. Many people today fondly remember The Talk of the Town.

In 1983 Peter Stringfellow created ' the world's greatest discothèques' and gave the venue back its original name. The Hippodrome became internationally known as the discotheque to visit.
