Someday
Music written by Richard Carpenter and lyrics by John Bettis.
Released 1972 on the album And I Love You So.
The song is available on the digitally remastered album and on the collection Original Gold.
This song is originally from "The Carpenters" first album "Offering" (November 1969). "The Carpenters" consisted of Richard Lynn Carpenter and his younger sister Karen Anne Carpenter. Together with bass player Wes Jacobs the trio won a Battle of the Bands contest at the Hollywood Bowl in 1966, which led to a first recording contract. Jacobs left the band 1968 and they formed another band "Spectrum" with Richard's college friend John Bettis. They divided again and "The Carpenters" performed as a duo, but John Bettis collaborated with the duo throughout the duration of their career mainly as lyricist. Richard produced, arranged, played piano, and sang backup vocals along with his sister Karen, who drummed and sang the lead vocals.
The successful time of "The Carpenters" began
in 1970 with "Close To You" mainly until 1975 with "Only Yesterday".
In this time they've been really very popular, won awards, and produced many hits.
Some other Shirley Bassey hits which had also been performed by "The Carpenters" are:
"I Need to Be in Love", Solitaire and For All We Know.
After these successful five years the duo were plagued by personal problems.
1983 Karen died.
Ricard released a solo album 1987.
Lyrics
One day
When I am able to love you
I'll come
Back from wherever I've been to
I'll see you
Looking the same as you always have
Lovely, so lovely, I'll cling
To the love you give
So I'll start to live
Someday is coming
If I believe it
Someday always brings
The good life you knew
Ever back to you
How I need you
Someday
All I can give you is someday
Someday
All I can offer is someday
Please say
That you'll be waiting when someday comes
Promise me this and a kiss
To keep what you are
Always close to me
Ooh I need you
Someday
All I can give you is someday
Someday
All I can offer is someday
Please say
That you'll be waiting when someday comes
Promise me this and a kiss
To keep what you are
Always close to me
Someday
