Vehicle
Written by Jim (James M.) Peterik.
In the "Something Else" CD Johnny Harris is mentioned as writer, but as far as I know he "only" was the arranger, conductor and producer for Shirley Bassey.

Recorded on 15 February 1971 but not released until 1994 on the collection Bassey - The EMI/UA Years 1959 - 1979. It is also available as a bonus-track of the 1999 re-release of Something Else.

The horn-dominated sound of "Vehicle" is from a special era in rock music history called horn rock and early jazz rock. The Ides Of March were founded by Jim Peterik in 1966 as a teen band in Chicago. In 1968 Blood, Sweat and Tears used a horn section in one of their songs. They fused a rock & roll rhythm section to a horn section and held out the promise of a jazz-rock fusion that could storm the pop charts. This style was very successful for a brief period at the end of the '60s and the start of the '70s. The Ides Of March had done five classical pop singles until 1970 as a Chicago teen band. By the late 1960s Jim Peterik had reconfigured the band to include a full horn section, and a new sound and style for the band was born. In 1970 the Ides Of March reached No. 2 on the US-Billboard with the million-selling single "Vehicle" a tune that bore more than a passing resemblance to the then mega-selling Blood, Sweat and Tears. "Vehicle" then also was the title of the Ides Of March's first album. The sound mirrored the success of horn rock bands like Chase (Bill) and Blood, Sweat and Tears.
I hope this is all correct and can give you a little historical background to this song.

Lyrics

Hey well
I'm a friendly stranger in the black sedan
Won't you hop inside my car?
I got pictures, got candy, I'm a loveable gal
And I can take you to the nearest star
I'm your vehicle baby
I'll take you anywhere you want to go
I'm your vehicle woman
By now I'm sure you know
That I love ya
I need ya
I want ya
Got to have ya
Great God in heaven you know that I love you

Well if you want to be a movie star
I can take you to Hollywood
But if you want to stay just like you are
You know I think you really should
I'm your vehicle baby
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go
I'm your vehicle woman
By now I'm sure you know
That I love ya
I need ya
I want ya
Got to have ya
Great God in heaven you know that I love you

'Cause I love ya
I need ya
I want ya
Got to have ya
Great God in heaven you know that I love you

Hey well
I'm a friendly stranger in the black sedan
Won't you hop inside my car?
I got pictures, got candy, I'm a loveable gal
And I can take you to the nearest star
I'm your vehicle baby
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go
I'm your vehicle woman
By now I'm sure you know
That I love ya
I need ya
I want ya
Got to have ya
Great God in heaven you know that I love you
