It Must Have Been Love
Written by Per Gessle

Released on the 1995 album Shirley Bassey Sings The Movies. In 1990 Roxette reached No. 1 in the US Billboard with this song. From the 1990 movie "Pretty Woman".

Plot summary of "Pretty Woman" Edward (Richard Gere) is a rich, ruthless businessman who specializes in taking over companies and then selling them off piece by piece. He travels to Los Angeles for a business trip and decides to hire a prostitute - Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts). They take a liking to each other and he offers her money if she'll stay with him for an entire week while he makes the "rich and famous" scene (since it doesn't do for a man of his stature to be alone at society parties and polo matches). Romantic comedy (and complications) ensue.

Lyrics

Lay a whisper
On my pillow
Leave the winter
On the ground
I wake up lonely
There's air of silence
In the bedroom
And all around

Touch me now
I close my eyes
And dream away

It must have been love
But it's over now
It must have been good
But I lost it somehow
It must have been love
But it's over now
From the moment we touched
Till the time had ran out

Make believing
We're together
That I'm sheltered
By your heart
But in and outside
I've turned to water
Like a teardrop
In your palm

And it's a hard
Winter's day
I dream away

It must have been love
But it's over now
It was all that I wanted
Now I'm living without
It must have been love
But it's over now
It's where the water flows
It's where the wind blows

It must have been love
But it's over now
It was all that I wanted
Now I'm living without
It must have been love
But it's over now
It must have been good
But I lost it somehow
It must have been love
But it's over now
