Goldfinger singer Shirley Bassey is set to shock fans with the help of dance music act The
Propellerheads.
The glamorous Welsh star secretly slipped into a north London studio yesterday (04SEP97) to begin work on a single with the group. A Bassey confidante says the group confessed to having been long-time fans of the diva and asked her to make the trip from her home in Monte Carlo to sing on the track, History. She adds, "Shirley's always loved the unusual and she's worked with Yello
in the past. She readily accepted the offer after hearing some of the
Propellerheads music. "They're hoping to release History in early December and I
imagine it will be very different to anything she's done before and surprise
quite a few people."
Shirley Bassey said:
"The two Propellerhead boys sent the song to me, and though I loved the music I thought it was more something for Tina Turner than for me. But they insisted I must do it, and I'm quite glad that they did. Now I've got young kids -- I mean, really, even 6- and 7-year-olds - coming up to me on the street and saying, 'I love your new record. I'm a big fan.' As big a fan as a 7-year-old fan can be, I suppose."
