Shirley Bassey Books
Books written about Shirley Bassey

There isn't an approved biography of Shirley Bassey, because she is keen to keep her private life private. She often gives information in interviews though.

Shirley Bassey - My Life On Record And In Concert

This is the only book available that has been approved by Shirley Bassey and with parts written by her personally.  The book was published by Bloomsbury in 1998 with ISBN 074754090X.

It has a discography, and some good pictures spanning her career. Purchase this item, or compare prices.

In the year of her Diamond Tour, this colourful memento is the first book to trace the remarkable career of Shirley Bassey, from the austerity of the 1950s to the world-wide fame she so deservedly today.

An Appreciation of the Life of Shirley Bassey
By Muriel Burgess

There is a book by Muriel Burgess about Shirley's private life, but you should be aware that is not approved by Shirley Bassey - she refused to acknowledge it. It contains many errors and it is not well researched. (Most of the research is done from newspaper cuttings.) Shirley Bassey herself did not take any part in the research and compilation of this book. But it can help to give a fan an impression of Shirley's earlier years if it is read sensibly.

The synopsis from Amazon says it all: "Shirley Bassey has sold more records than any other British female singer, but the personal tragedies that have fuelled the emotionalism of her songs have not been revealed. This biography covers her poverty-stricken childhood, her pregnancy at 16, her marriages and affairs, and her alcoholism"

You can purchase either the paperback or the hardback from Amazon.
